We {heart} Felt Hearts

I admit it, I love any excuse to put on my thinking cap and create a project. While I had my Maraschino baker's twine and red felt out the other day, I thought to myself, "What else can I do with this?"

I'm Monika Wright and I'm here today to show you what some felt scraps, a little baker's twine and some patterned paper scraps will reward you with. I made this heart pin for my Mom, but I'm thinking that I should have made one for myself as well!

I began with my two felt hearts and stuffed it with a small bit of a cotton ball. After using my craft glue to adhere the two layers together, and becoming impatient with the dry time and resorted to stitching the heart shapes together with my sewing machine. Probably the best choice, really. The baker's twine is adhered with Glossy Accents atop the line of stitching.

After adding a pin closure to the back of the felt heart, I attached it to the patterned paper insert I made for my hinged tin and added a bit more twine {Maraschino and Lemondrop} to add a fun touch.

Bag Full of Love with Monika Wright

There's love in the air for young, old, single, married...

and of course, the wee ones in our life!

Being a crafty mama, I always have random art project supplies on hand and thought I would share with you this rather easy, but charmingly cute, under 10 minute project. Hi, I'm Monika Wright, a proud returning member and now Senior Designer from the 2011 Design Team for The Twinery.

Here are my supplies:

So, let's get started. Using some die cut hearts, but you could also use a hand punch or even free hand draw them and trim them yourself, I wrote a message that spans about 9 hearts to our oldest daughter. After punching holes, I threaded the hearts together with Maraschino twine and loosely knotted it to hold the little booklet together before slipping it inside the canvas bag.

Then, using a hand cut felt heart, I used my Glossy Accents {I find that this product does an amazing job of adhering The Twinery twine to fabric, felt and cardstock} to embellish the felt heart with more Maraschino twine and again used Glossy Accents to adhere the felt heart to the canvas bag.

Today, Stephanie is back to share a quick and easy project

for fun and fabulous thank you cards.

Hi there! Stephanie here with one more card to share. I don't know about you, but every year after Christmas I have tons of thank you cards to give out to all those that love to spoil the husband and me :)

For this 5x5" card, I cut each of the letters using different paper scraps with my die cutting machine. I accented each with The Twinery twine using Tombow Mono Multi Glue.

*tip, if you don't have a die cutter (Cricut/Silhouette/etc..) you can always print your favorite fonts on paper & fussy cut them.

Inside I added "so very much" using stickers.
I let the stitching show & just tied little bows to secure the twine.

One More Update for the 2012 Design Team

Happy New Year!!!

Wow....what patience you have all displayed!!

Julie Ranae here. We want to thank all of you for being

so very kind and patient as we have been in the decision-making

process for our 2012 Design Team.

I've heard from several of you 'assuming' that you

did not make the team because we you hadn't heard

from us. Many of you are trying to make decisions

regarding other teams as well.

The best we can share is if your passion is to work

with a different team and you are not able to

wait on our decision, we completely understand and

encourage you to go in the direction of your passion.

As Nicole has mentioned before,

EVERYONE WILL HEAR FROM US

one decision or another.

We know that you understand that the our family & the holiday

were a big priority for both Nicole and I during this past

month and with all VERY GOOD intentions, we had hoped

to have made the decisions, contacted EVERYONE with a

yes or a thank you for applying message.

But alas, we felt it was better to really take our time to

go through every single submission, visit every single blog

(which we have) and narrow our focus to specific needs.

Nearly 400 submissions is a beautifully daunting task

and it has been a joy to see all the talent

that is out there and interested in working

with our team.

With all sincere intentions, we hope to

make contacts by Tuesday evening and make

some sort of announcement by Wednesday.

We will not be announcing the team at that time

because we will need to hear from each designer

and get themsettled before that can happen, but it is our

HOPE

to share that news with you by Monday, January 9th.

In the meantime, thank you to ALL who have been sharing such

wonderful projects over on our Facebook page. We love the

inspiration you provide. It really shows how much you

love our product and we love you all!

Gift-Giving AFTER the Holidays!

This is Jen with Jen's Inks Spot.

I like the personal element in giving gifts and have challenged myself the last few years to find a project to make to give to friends. If you are looking for a last minute and even

AFTER THE HOLIDAY

gift ideas for teachers, Sunday School teachers, co-workers or someone you want to give to but can't figure out what to give, this is a super easy, quick and very fun project!

I made several varieties of sugar scrubs. LOVE them!! They make my hands feel so soft and smooth and I love how it exfoliates them too. It feels so good rubbing it on my hands.

This is the peppermint scrub.

Don't they look pretty all decorated up?

To decorate the jars, I tied a ribbon around the lid of the jar and hung a mini ornament from it and then tied a bow. I also tied a tag (that told what the product was with simple directions) and a little spoon (to get the scrub out with and to stir it up if it separates) onto the ribbon piece with various colors of Twinery twine that matched the color scheme. I also punched a piece of patterned paper and attached to the top of the jar.

I wrapped Caribbean twine around the spoon

for some decoration. It adds the perfect splash of color and

decorates up a plain, wooden spoon well.

These are the 3 different scrubs I made.

The green peppermint scrub you've seen above,

then I also made a peppermint foot scrub and a lemon scrub.

I love how easy it is to dress up the jars with The Twinery's twine! When I packaged these scrubs in a group of 3, I only wanted an ornament on one of them, so on the others I used various colors of the twine. I attached the tag and the spoon with the twine as well.

I did a lot of experimenting to find the scrub recipes that I liked the best. I shared my two favorite recipes on my blog, Jen's Ink Spot, that I tweaked and tweaked until I got them just how I wanted them. If you'd like the recipes for yourself, head on over!

The scrubs would make great hostess gifts or baby shower/bridal shower gifts too! I want to keep a few on hand for those times that I need a last minute gift and have nothing to give.

Let the Twine Take Center Stage

It is still so hard for me to believe that it is already December

(and almost 2012)!

I have been so blessed to be able to be on The Twinery's Design Team this year and I must admit that I am sad to see all these final posts and goodbyes from some of my amazing teammates.

Like many of you, I am crossing my fingers for a spot on next year's Design Team, but if I don't make the cut this will be my final post here on

The Twinery's blog.

No matter what happens, I will continue to use

The Twinery's beautiful products

and will continue to support The Twinery in whatever way I can.

I believe that The Twinery's twine is a beautiful product and there are so many great options to let the twine take center stage

on your projects.

One way to showcase your twine is to create a pattern or shape with it. For this card I created these "heart strings" from Maraschino, Pink Sorbet, and Blossom twine:

The Twinery's twine also looks beautiful when crocheted.

For this tag I crochet a wreath from Peapod twine

and topped it off with

a little bow of Maraschino twine:

Sometimes it is just best to let the twine shine in a place

where there would

normally be something like string:

The tree garland was created with Maraschino twine

and the bow features

both Maraschino and Honeydew twine.

Brown Paper Packages Tied up with....

Hello, Jordan here from Polkadot Prints. I hope you are all

enjoying your Christmas preparations. It is one of my

favourite times of the year!

I recently discovered these gorgeous homemade cookies by Cookie Dough here in Australia. They are chunky little circles of goodness with amazing flavours! When my boxes of treats arrived recently, I wanted to display them in a fun way. I've had these oversized pegs from Typo and have been itching to use them.

This seemed the perfect project.

Imagine these served up for a cookie bar for a

"Milk & Cookies" themed party. Yum!

I used the party dots from my Snowflake Christmas printable collection and some Carribean & Maraschino twine to suspend some kraft paper bags. Hang them over your mantel or Christmas tree and they will definitely add some

sweet goodness to your home!

baking and decorating!

Holiday Inspiration from Stephanie

Hi there! It's Stephanie here with my last post as a team member with The Twinery. As Sheri said on Monday, all good things must end but I'm happy to see all the inspiration the new team will bring in the coming year! My best wishes to all that applied,

you're in for a fun time :)

Today I have a few Christmas related projects to share for those still in need of last minute ideas!

First up, this super simple gift "wrap." This little box was definitely the easiest present I've wrapped all year! To recreate, die cut a shape (in this case the kraft heart), punch a hole in each side, loop twine through, & tie bow. I added a few embellishments to this, but I think a "to & from" would be nice too.

Next I have a tree shaped card with twine ornaments inspired by our team leader, Julie Ranae. To create these "ornaments" I used a 1/2" glue dot & swirled maraschino twine around (I started on the outside edge & swirled to the center). This card was very quick & easy if you still have cards to make!

Last, an initial tag. I used my die cut machine to cut 1 regular tag & 1 tag with an "e" cut out. On the solid tag I used the glue dot/twine swirl technique from the card above. Then I used 3D foam dots to adhere the cut out tag on top.

Well, I hope these ideas inspire a baker's twine
project in your future :)

Holiday Shipping Update!

We just wanted to post a little update on our holiday shipping schedule...

If you live within the US...as long as you place your order before MIDNIGHT (EST) on Friday, December 16 (this Friday)...your order will arrive by Christmas.

We will still continue to ship on our normal shipping schedule through December 22 - that means your package will ship out within 1 to 3 business days once your order has been placed...we just can't guarantee pre-Christmas arrival for any order placed after December 16.

If you live outside of the US, your orders will still continue to ship through December 22 as well...but we can no longer guarantee pre-Christmas delivery (order cut-off date for International deliveries was 12/2).

Twine & Tag Garland

Hi everyone! This is Sheri with my last post for The Twinery. I have enjoyed my time on the design team but as we know, all good things must eventually come to an end. I'm happy to move over so more of you can enjoy working with this fabulous twine! To those of you who applied for the new design team, I wish you the best of luck! It is the absolute best team to be a part of!

Now onto my project! I'm in full swing Christmas spirit around here so, of course, my project was going to be something Christmas related. I started looking around my studio to see what I could find that would inspire me. I love shipping tags so my eyes fell to those. I pulled out a stack and began pulling things out to play with. I decided to work up a garland using shipping tags. I have the perfect tree for it! One of the trees in my house is what we call "The Lodge Tree". It's my woodsy-themed tree with red plaid ribbon and pinecone garland mixed with lots of natural looking elements. It's my favorite tree I have. I thought this would go perfect on that tree.

So, first, I pulled out my tags, a few things from my Christmas embellies stash, stamps, ink and punches.

I pulled out some of my stamps from The Twinery's previous blog hops with The Stamps of Life and Market Street Stamps. Love both of these sets. Added in some other Christmas stamps too.

Then just started stamping randomly on the tags.

Added embellishments to each of the tags

Then began stringing them on my favorite twine!

Then hung it on my favorite tree!

Love it!

Hello Twiners! Twinerites? Twinerians? I’ll keep working on it. In the meantime, this is Ashley Bores from Heartmade Stationery and I am sothrilled to be featured as a guest designer for The Twinery.

Before we get started, some fun facts aboutme:

1. I almost never follow the advice: look beforeyou leap. Not because I’m one of thoseawesomely brave, carefree types. Instead, I’m the girl who turns into a maniac with sparks coming out ofmy ears the second I get an idea in my head – and the sparking doesn’t stopuntil I make it something real. So far,this kind of hyperactive impulsiveness has worked out well for me. If I had sat down and did all the carefulconsidering you’re supposed to do, I might have never opened my business,Heartmade Stationery.

We walk around in ourunderwear, work song lyrics into conversation on a daily basis, publicly teaseeach other, and dance in the kitchen like those air dudes outside the car dealership. We do goofy really, really well.

3. I am repulsed by cotton balls. And that’s all I can say about it.

4. I’ve come a long way. Ten years ago, the only form of crafting Iknew was in the form of those dirt cheap cross stitch kits from Wal-Mart. And I was terrible at it. But now I am consistently armpit deep in nofewer than 4 projects at a time. Thereis so much out there in the creative world to learn and try and I can’t wait tosee where I’m at in 10 more years!

5. I collect lip gloss like a hoarder.

This is Linda from burlap+blue, here with two fun and easy ways to use
The Twinery's fabulous twine for the holidays!

These festive mason jars are great for holding jewelry, candy, soaps, and any other tiny treat you can think of!

To create these, simply begin by painting dots onto a clear mason jar, using craft paint and a round foam brush. Once dry, tie on a doily using your choice of twine from The Twinery. Using the lid of your jar, trace and cut a piece of scrapbook paper to embellish the top. So fun!

Next up, I created festive twine garland to wrap up all of your holiday finds. Presentation is everything, right? Using a needle and twine (I used a plastic needle since they tend to have larger eyes to fit the twine through), thread scrapbook paper circles (or whatever shape punch you have on hand) onto your twine...

Once done, wrap around kraft-paper wrapped gifts, and display!

hi there, Hera here - greetings from a windy wintery day in switzerland.

todays my day at the twinery and my project was something that started out as a christmas decoration and ended up...well as a page of music!

Whilst perusing the christmas decorations at a local department store i came across a Mozart display with these amazingly glittery treble clefs.. i knew immediately that they would look super cool on a card and made this hot pink diva version initially...

I really loved the pink black combination of this card but i bought four of the treble clefs and wanted to make an even classier version! I had a light bulb moment where i envsioned the note on a piece of manuscript paper...well not just any old piece of manuscript paper of course ...Queue: Charcoal Twine!

I created the paper from twine by simply cutting similar lengths and attaching them on the back of the white card at either side and fiddling a little on the front side to make them evenly spaced.

super easy!

once i had finished the paper i attached the clef on top, blinged it up with a rhinestone brad and glued the whole project to a black card to make it pop even more - the end result was this....

any guesses as to the actual sheet of MUSIC its lying on????

if you guessed i am an ABBA fan...you were right! In the spirit of the season it should probably be a christmas tune but they will be all too plentiful in the coming days so ABBA it is :-)

Dragon 'Tales' with The Twinery

hello everyone...Deena here today.

we had a dragon party...for cyra's big number 4.

my little one turned four last week.. and we had a dragon party.
It was a great party and I can't wait to share all the details with you.
I designed the invite in photoshop and had it printed

via smartpress.com.
For a sweet touch, I tied a birthday candle with

twinery twine, pink sorbet, lilac and blossom

onto the card.

It was a great party full bouncing tails...

and dragon treats.

Setup was simple.. the dragon gear all ready to go..

Cyra wanted all of her friends to have dragon badges..
"one that you'd make a wish and a dragon would appear."

She'd say to me..
Making dragon badges were easy..

giant jewels + rainbow leather cording...
the hard part was going to be coming up with a dragon..

even little brother dragons fell right into the role..

And for the tails I used this sweet tutorial

from Tatertots & Jello..

The dragon cake was made by Dulce Desserts..
and I made the cake pops tied them with more adorable

twinery twine.

The party was a hit..she was the

happiest birthday girl I've ever seen.

Quick Card Accents for the Holidays

a quick idea for Christmas card design.

I don't know about you, but I am not able to create that

25th hour in a day that is sometimes needed to enjoy

the creative process. So I look for easy ways to use our baker's

twine as an accent on my cards. This design goes a little

'beyond' just an accent, but it ends up being so easy,

that you can take this design idea and use it with just

about any rubber stamps and die cuts that you own.

After stamping the main image, I then stamped it once

again on white cardstock and cut out the trees and placed them

over where the original trees would be.

From there, it was simply layering our 'Stone' baker's twine

as a continuous frame around the image.

I am having a great time using

glitter glue as an accent on many of my twine projects as

well, and that's what I've done here on the 'snow-covered'

hills where the trees stand.

using the same idea with glitter glue...here is a snippet...

Jingle Bells at The Twinery

Hi, Ivona here from Sugarsticks Parties! Holiday season makes me want to add jingle bells to everything so I wanted to use some of the hair ties we had lying around for the little one's wrap around jingly hair ties.

Using a bit of ribbon, I hand sewn a bow and attached it to the hair tie. After that I was just adding colorful detail until I was satisfied with the result. The twine looks adorable compared to the round shapes of bells and pom poms.

The other end of the wrap around tie only has a jingle bell, best to run the hair tie through the bell and then tie the two hair ties together. I tried sewing the bell to the tie and it broke off every time. Using just one hair tie was not enough to wrap around comfortably around even a tiny pony tail. The two ties together are long enough to wrap around several times and still hook the ends through without a problem.

What do you think? Adorable, christmasy and jingly :)

Garlands Galore

This is Linda again, from burlap+blue
with two new garland ideas using The Twinery's fabulous twine!

First photo (washi tape garland): Using Japanese Washi tape and twine from the Twinery, this is a quick and easy project to customize to any style of home decor and any color combination!

Second photo (flower garland): Don't crochet? No problem. There are lots of Etsy sellers willing to sell you crocheted hearts inexpensively, in any color you can imagine! Just string hearts on twine, and you are done!

With the holidays coming up, I can think of lots of places to hang garlands created with Twinery twine...mantels, dining room chairs, bookshelves...the possibilities are endless!

Scavenger Hunt Tag Book

Hello!! This is Jen from Jen's Ink Spot!
Today I am sharing a fun idea perfect for any special occasion!

Last year for my son's birthday I had him go on a scavenger hunt for his birthday present. I had clues at several locations in the house and at the end of hunt, he ended up at his present. It was so much fun to create and to watch him go to each spot! I took this same idea and applied it to a tag book that the recipient could keep as a keepsake.

This is what the front looks like. I printed the title on vellum.

I die cut the mini pinwheel and then used The Twinery's Lilac twine to make the center and then tied the Peapod twine around the tag.

This is the first page of the booklet. Basically the idea of how this book works is that the tags would be hidden and your instructions would direct the recipient to the next tag until they reach

their final destination, i.e. their gift!

Here is a sample of the clue.

I used a fun knot tying technique to make the "handles" on the tag. I have a tutorial with pictures toward the end of this post.

And here is how I used the twine to adhere the pocket for the tag to fit in. I punched tiny holes in the pocket and then used a large-eyed needle to thread the twine through.

To accent this tag, I made a friendship bracelet and

adhered it to the tag. It has a fun wavy design to it.

The last page I kept blank so that a message could be written on it. The design is very similar to the cover page of the tag book.

Now, for a quick picture tutorial on how I tied the twine on the "handle" of my tags, which is really just a simple knotting technique.

First, cut two strands of twine, fold them in half and push the loop through the front to the back of the tag.

Pull the ends from the front of the tag through

the loop that you've pulled through the back.

It should look like this when you are finished.

Then knot the two strands of twine together

and pull down to the base of the tag.

It looks like this.

Continue knotting the twine until you get the length you desire.

Cut the ends of the twine off to the length you prefer.

Holiday Table Decor

Hi everyone!! It is Jen from Jen's Ink Spot! I wanted to share an easy Christmas table decoration idea using the fabulous twine from The Twinery! I hope you don't mind, but I do have quite a few pictures to share!

Here's what the complete place setting looks like.

Years ago I created some candles for Christmas decorations using upside down glass goblets. I still put them out from year to year. This year I decided I wanted to update the look because I love the idea so much!

First, I headed off to my local Goodwill store. I scored big time!! I got each of these glasses for 49 cents each!

To create this look, I first wrapped The Twinery's Buttercream twine around the stems and used a little dab of hot glue to secure it. Then, I die cut 2 holly leaves and berries

from felt and embellished them.

This is the Buttercream twine I used.

Isn't it beautiful?

This gives you a side view. Isn't the twine wrapped around the stems the perfect accent! I love how it looks and
adds the perfect touch!

Here is the place card. I created this the exact same way I did the goblet stems and placed the small holly & berry die cuts on top of the Twinery twine. Simple, yet sophisticated!

I also created a simple napkin ring. I cut a strip of ivory cardstock and wrapped it around the napkin. Then, I wrapped the Buttercream twine around the circle ring and added the holly leaves once again on top. To secure the twine around the napkin ring, I first added a small strip of adhesive to the middle of the cardstock and then wrapped the twine around it.

Here's one more look at the grouping. I think that these would look great on a table set for Christmas! And really they are simple to make! The great thing is that there are so many colors of twine that you could use for your candle decorations and you could use this idea for many other occasions as well!

These upside down goblet candles could be used on a fireplace mantel or a bookshelf, they don't have to be only for a table decoration! And, they would make super cute gifts too!

The Advent of Ornaments

Hi, Ivona here from Sugarsticks Parties! I hope you had fun this past Saturday with The Twinery and Authentique Paper.

Once I was done with my rosette ornaments for the little kitchen tree, I started obsessing with the idea of also creating a small advent calendar like set of ornaments.

The cone shapes are cut from 6inch squares. Once you cut the square diagonally, measure the half-diagonal length and mark the same length on the outer sides.

That should allow you to cut the curve for the cone shape.

For a quick number stencil I printed out numbers in one of my favorite fonts Bebas Neue and glittered away. I used Modge Podge on these, but any glitter glue would work.

Before gluing the cones together I attached tulle as closing for the cones. Fill the 24 cones with a fun treat, tie up with your favorite twine and have yourself an advent calendar addition to your tree.
