Cupid's Arrow Treat Bags

Hi again twine lovers! This is Ashley Bores of Heartmade Stationery – you might remember me from the Guest Designer post I did with The Twinery a few months ago. I was completely over the moon when I was asked to join this year’s Design Team and I feel honored to be among such great talent. You are in for an amazing year!

For my first post as a Designer for The Twinery, I just knew I had to showcase the Cupid’s Arrow Treat Bags I made for Valentine’s Day! Valentine’s might have been yesterday, but around our house and the hussle and bussle of work/school/activities – one day just isn’t enough. February is the month of love after all! I made these mini treat bags as favors for our Love Day dinner, but they would be equally cute sent to school with your kiddos or tucked in your husband’s coat pocket. Spread the love!

For these favors, I used Pink Sorbet, Maraschino, Blossom, and Lilac baker’s twine – perfect colors for Happy Hearts Day. I started by folding my mini bags where I’d want them to close and then punching holes where I plan to tie my arrows on. I filled the bags with little treats, like mini chocolate bars, Hershey kisses, and conversation hearts, and then threaded the baker’s twine through the holes. (Okay, so the first time I did these, I actually sealed the whole bag before adding anything to it. It was cute, but pretty pointless. ☺) Once you have your twine threaded, don’t tie your bow yet! Instead, seal your bags with a strip of pretty washi tape and set aside.

Next, I cut white lollipop sticks into 3 inch lengths using my floral wire cutter. I put a little dab of hot glue on one end of the stick, and then wrapped another color of baker’s twine around the length of the stick, using another bit of hot glue to fasten the other end.

For the point of the arrow, I used a heart punch and some patterned paper scraps. (I just can’t bear to throw away my crafts scraps. I have huge bins full of tiny pieces of paper, fabric, ribbon, and twine. My husband encourages this hoarding because he thinks it’ll keep me out of craft stores longer. (He’s wrong.) For the fin end of my arrow, I folded scraps of felt in half and cut parallelogram type shapes.

A smidge of hot glue to attach my heart tips and end fins to the arrows and you have tiny Cupid’s Arrows! After my arrows were all set, I tied them to the front of my favor bags with a little baker's twine bow.

I love the way these turned out and how seriously simple they are! I had thought of making 40 more for my kids's Valentines yesterday because they really don’t take very much time, but I just couldn’t stand the thought of all those kids just throwing away my pretty baker’s twine! ☺

Here’s wishing you all a lovely Valentine’s week! And if you’d like to send me some love, check out my facebook page! Twinery fans are the best.

XOXOXO - Ashley

P.S. While preparing this blog post, I had thought about using little stickers that said "You've been hit by Cupid!". But then I couldn't stop singing, "you've been hit by, you've been struck by a Smooth Criminal" and my son rolled his eyes and told me to stop. :)
