It's time for The Twinery Design Team project again! I decided to play with party hats this time!
What you'll need:
~ the party hat pattern (links below)
~ The Twinery baker's twine (I used Blossom and Lemondrop) for the braid and the ties
~ tissue paper in the color of your choice
~ double sided tape or glue
~ sewing machine, needle and thread
First, PRINT YOUR PATTERN in either chartreuse or light blue. CUT ALONG THE LINES, paying attention to the one visible line.
You will need to BRAID YOUR TWINE before you can sew it on. I wanted my braid thicker so I cut 6 pieces of twine, a length and a half of the hat's edge. Tie all the pieces together and then make your braid. You need to CUT YOUR TISSUE PAPER in the width you want (mine was 2inches) and length depending on how frilly you want it. I used two widths of the the tissue paper.

How you want to attach the ties is matter or preference. If you want to punch holes in the hat's edge to run the ties through, you need to do that before sewing on the paper with the twine.
Now you are ready to SEW. Position your paper and braid on top and use the sewing foot to hold it in place, ruffle about two inches of paper and tighten the braid to hold it in place as you slowly sew through the middle of the braid. If you punched your tie holes before hand you will need to be careful to sew above them. In the end you will have these:
Cut the braid and paper clean with the hat's edge. Try BENDING THE HATS into the conical shape before putting the glue on just so they bend easier. CUT YOUR DOUBLE SIDED TAPE the length of the glue side of the hat and attach it. FOLD THE HAT taking care to cover the black line so none of the cutting line is visible.I prefer to ADD THE TIES last by sewing them in, that makes them sturdier. Run a piece of baker's twine through a needle and sew it through the braid on each side of the hat. This will make the ties more durable and they still won't be noticed since they match the braid color.
Finally, use the leftover twine (from the braid) to make a little pom to put on the top of the hat. Tape it from the inside of the hat. You can do the same with tissue paper for a giggly result:)
This hat pattern was made to match the Preppy Stripe Birthday design. You can find it in the shoppe!
