Homespun Easter Pail

Hello everyone! Thanks for stopping by the Twinery's Blog today! I have a super fun project to share with you today that can be adapted for all sort of occasions.

First, let's talk about the twine for a second. If this is the first post you're reading on this blog, or the first time you've stumbled upon the Twinery, congratulations. You've just found your resource for the the softest, most luxurious, most vibrant baker's twine I have ever worked with. If you've already had a chance to get your hands on some of The Twinery's twine, you already know what I'm talkin' about!

The versatility of this twine is what initially drew me to it - there are literally hundreds and hundreds of ways to use the gorgeous colors in everyday crafts. Be sure to follow this blog and check out The Twinery's Flickr group so you don't miss any inspiration!

So let's get down to business. I created a Homespun Easter "Pail" for you today. That's right, a pail, not a basket. This simple project is a treat once completed, but I will warn you, takes about one afternoon to complete. The bonus is that I found wrapping the eggs to be very therapeutic and while I wrapped, I had time to think, and really enjoy the texture of the twine. I think you'll find the results more than rewarding. I would even do this again, perhaps in a group setting, where a large number of eggs or objects could be wrapped by more than one person. Think of what we could cover in twine!!

For this project you will need:

- The Twinery's twine in Blossom (pink), Honeydew (green) and Cappuccino (brown)
- Styrofoam Eggs (any craft store should have some right now)
- Cardstock in any shade (I used Kraft and Manilla tag stock)
- Basket shred
- Punches or dies of choice (I used a butterfly punch and a daisy steel rule die)
- Stamps, Ink (optional - I used Market Street Stamps' Vintage Music and Ranger's Distress Ink in Antique Linen)
- Galvanized or garden pail or pot of choice (Mine was just $1 at Target One Spot!)
- Craft Sticks and Craft Picks
- Low Temp Hot Glue Gun and Glue sticks
- Glossy Accents or any glue of choice to use for the flowers
- Floral Foam, Floral Picks (all optional, please see bottom of post for more info)

The first thing I did was start at the top of my eggs with a bead of hot glue, and began the top "spiral". I glued a few lines, and as I got to the wider part of the egg, I simply wrapped with a bead of hot glue every now and then. You will want to create  your glue lines towards the bottom of the egg the same as you did the top.

I varied my designs a bit to make the eggs unique even though they were all in the same three colors: Blossom, Honeydew, and Cappuccino.

Next, I wrapped twine around three craft sticks in Honeydew, and glued buttons to the flowers, tied them off with "Blossom", and adhered the finished bloom onto the stick.

I then stamped my butterfly with a pretty sheet music stamp and inked up the edges for some dimension. I adhered to the craft pick with Glossy Accents.

Once all my elements were ready to go, I arranged them in the pail with a natural colored basket shread and voila! All done. Now, because I don't typically work with styrofoam or any type of floral craft, I probably should really buy some floral foam for the bottom of the pail and use floral picks to make sure the elements don't shift. If you're making this with consumables (like baked goods or candy) you wouldn't need to do that. I plan on giving this to my Grandma, so I hope she'll be able to display it each Spring.

I hope you enjoyed today's project - and that it inspires you to think beyond the basket for Easter this year! Be sure to visit me at my blog, Handmade by Angelica for more fun ways to use your twine! You're sure to spot it in almost every one of my posts! Happy Spring! ~ Angelica
